Zika virus: FG alerts Nigerians, restricts travel to Latin America

An Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which transmits the Zika virus  The Federal Government has issued an alert about the outbreak of Zika virus infection and directed that Nigerians, especially pregnant women, should be restricted from travelling to Latin America for now until the situation improves. The government, which directed the Nigeria Center for Disease Control to include Zika virus diagnosis as part of ongoing efforts to manage the Lassa fever outbreak in the country, said anyone coming from any of the Latin American countries should be interviewed at the various ports of entry to ascertain evidence of Zika virus symptoms. Buhari rejects naira devaluation

ARCHMEDIA President Muhammadu Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari has again rejected calls for the official devaluation of naira, saying he was y5et to be convinced that the country and its people will derive any tangible benefit from such exercise. A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, on Thursday quoted the President as speaking at a meeting he had with Nigerians living in Kenya late on Wednesday. Buhari who is currently on a three-day state visit to the country was said to have maintained that while export-driven economies could benefit from devaluation of their currencies, devaluation will only result in further inflation and hardship for the poor and middle classes in Nigeria’s import-dependent economy. Rivers rerun to hold February 6

Archmedia INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed February 6, 2016 for the rerun elections in Rivers State. The outgoing Resident Electoral Commissioner of the state, Gesila Khan, said this while speaking with leaders of political parties in Port Harcourt on Thursday. Khan, who had been transferred to another state, explained that election would be held for 22 House of Assembly seats, 12 House of Representatives seats and three senatorial seats. She, however, said the date fixed for the rerun elections was still tentative. She said 2, 148,289 people were expected to vote in the rerun elections, adding that only voters who registered during last year’s elections would be eligible to vote. Khan said 6,806 card readers would be deployed for the exercise, even as she called on various political parties to come to the state INEC office to get clarifications on matter concerning the forthcoming rerun.

Wizkid has been stealing my songs for long –Blackface

Ahmedu Augustine, widely known as Blackface Veteran dancehall act and a former member of the defunct Afro-pop singing trio, Plantashun Boyz, Ahmedu Augustine, widely known as Blackface, has called on fellow musician, Wizkid, to “stop stealing” his songs. Blackface who spoke exclusively to  Saturday Beats  earlier in the week, said the young hip-hop artiste had been copying many of his songs for a long time but he decided to keep quiet just to let peace reign.
