In every nation of the world , the young demographic (15-45years) are the most resourceful; and are trajectory in indicating how well the nation can progress,or otherwise.
According to the 2006 census figures of the National Population Commission, Nigeria has a youth population of well over 80 million ,and the spread is almost same along the well over 230ethnic groups in the nation. Beautiful!
Nigerian youths are indeed very resourceful:innovative, unique, greatly endowned with intellects that cannot be calibrated. In every sector of the economy, Our youth has come together to forge franchises and partnerships -some which will last beyond this generation. It is worthy of note that in the United States alone , nigerians are the most educated demographics and you see them everywhere. That's the Nigerian Dream.
But our selfish leaders want us divided. Our politicians want to destroy us. The youths are increasingly used as pawns in the hands of our leaders,whether at local level or national. They want us to remain divided because it benefits them more. They want us to remain divided so that we would not be able to ask relevant questions .
They divide us along tribal, ethnic and religious lines ;but when they go to abuja they wine , dine and backslap each other,irrespective of their religion or tribe. They give the youths a mantra to kill opposition but for themselves they say " Politics is about interest ".
How can we be so naive? ! . We are called the leaders of tomorrow. I tell you the truth tomorrow has come . Tomorrow is NOW! . The future is here .
Can we ask ourselves searching questions for once? For how long has these politicians been in the corridors of power?Since the 1 960 s. The people we read about in Current affairs in primary school are still the ones at the helm of affairs even after we have graduated from universities . Every election, they promise 'heaven and earth' , mbok what has changed? Their kids don't live here with us. Their kids don't have PVCs. Their kids don't share our plight , ;yet we vote in these politicians to continue to rape and impoverish us?
Our wellbeing as a nation Is well budgeted for every year in trillions of naira both at state and federal level. But how has the budgets benefited us ? Can you beat your chest to say you have been a beneficiary ?Where is the money?Where are tHe promised projects? WE are still plagued with long fuel queues, bad roads , dilapidated schools, no water , power outages, unemployment, under employment, non functional hospitals etc.
As we approach the election year, it is important that we ask ourselves probing and important questions. An elder that loves you will give you a chance to live a useful life .
Once every four years our politicians will bring bags of rice , salt,tshirts and plenty guns. They want to win elections. Let's for once tell them to step aside .We will take our chance to pilot the affairs of Nigeria. Time is ticking. Our generation is going. Let's not waste the opportunity to help this nation recover from the quagmire that our selfish leaders have plunged us into.
As youths,let us stand and take this task of nation building. "It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth"(Lam 3:27).
We share a common future.We share a common destiny. We have only one nation:Nigeria.
We may have different tongues and tribes but we call it variety , not division.
We will rescue our generation. it's a task we must live up to. And we shall leave a great legacy for our generations to come.
