Ayade to pay N7,500 to vulnerable youth in the State

Governor Ayade Benedict releases 750Million Naira for the payment of N7,500 monthly to 5,000 C'river youth in a social engagement program.

The Governor of Cross River State Senator Prof. Ben Ayade through the office of the Honourable Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development Comr Asu Okang release the sum of Seven Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N750,000,000) for the payment of Seven Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N7,500) to five thousand (5,000) Youths in 6 Local Government Areas across the state.

The program which is in partnership with the World Bank - Youth Employment and Social Support Operations (YESSO), is targeted at providing financial succor to the poor and vulnerable living in CRS.

While briefing the press men after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Public Workfare Component (PWF) of YESSO domiciled in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the First City Monument Bank (FCMB) which is to serve as the primary fund dispenser, the Honourable Commissioner noted that the cash transfer will be carried out by FCMB. While stating clearly that beneficiaries will be expected to assemble at the UJ ESUENE Sport's Stadium on the 12th of August which also is a date set aside to mark the International Youth Day to enable them conduct a systematic head count as payment alerts will be ringing alongside.

The Commissioner also explained that it is obligatory of the beneficiaries to be involved in some menial assignments such as would require them to spare atleast two hours of their time for about two to three days in a week and are not expected to be used by any host beyond the stipulated time as though they were conventional workers.
"We expect that these people who are poor and vulnerable would be given a sense of belonging by giving them some form of support with little or no obligation required of them" he added.
